Countdown · Race Start
Planned first race start: 20 June 2026 · 1400 CEST
Under the name Main Sailors we run a small, focused campaign around the Marinekutterregatta during Kiel Week. The idea is simple: bring together a mixed crew, define clear roles, prepare in a structured way – and then sail a clean, disciplined regatta.
The campaign is designed as an ongoing project rather than a one-off entry. We want the team to grow from year to year: familiar routines, shared language on board, and a common understanding of how we approach the event.
Campaign Focus
Our current main focus:
- Marinekutterregatta at Kiel Week
- a compact preparation phase before the regatta
- clear role definition for each crew member
- a simple, shared framework for starts, mark roundings and boat handling
The crew is intentionally mixed: some sailed the event before, others join for the first time. The setup aims at quick integration of new crew members without overloading them with detail.
Crew & Roles
A Marinekutter is sailed with a crew of nine. We work with fixed roles and a clear chain of communication. Everyone knows their primary job – and where to support others if needed.
In practice we adjust details of the role assignment depending on crew composition and conditions.
Preparation
Preparation is deliberately compact and realistic: most people join alongside work and family commitments. The aim is to focus on what really matters for this specific event.
Typical campaign structure:
- briefing and crew call a few weeks before the event
- a small series of short inputs (e.g. rules highlights, local specifics, communication on board)
- at least one full training day on the water focusing on coordination and basic patterns
- a short refresher and alignment just before the regatta day
The goal is not perfection, but repeatable patterns: everyone knows where to be in manoeuvres and what to look at. This reduces noise on board and frees capacity for decisions.
Campaign Philosophy
The Main Sailors campaign is deliberately low-key: no big budget, no glossy branding. The focus is on discipline, clarity and reliability.
- respect for the event and for the other crews
- respect for the racing rules of sailing.
- transparent and calm communication within the team
- a learning environment: everyone can ask questions, everyone can contribute
- short debrief after each race: what worked, what did not, what we adjust next time
Results matter – but the development of the team over time matters just as much. The ambition is to build a crew that enjoys coming back, knows each other’s strengths and shares a common way of sailing together.
